Upcoming Disney 100 short introduces a Mickey Mouse multiverse

A mayhem-filled Mickey Mouse multiverse is introduced in the first trailer for the upcoming Disney 100 animated short, Steamboat Silly.

Disney has been celebrating its 100th anniversary in style so far this year, with the LEGO Group having already released multiple sets to mark the occasion. Most recently we’ve seen the launch of seven such models, including the likes of 43221 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons, 43226 Disney Duos and 43227 Villain Icons.

Next month, Disney will debut a new animated short featuring the company’s iconic mascot, with multiple versions of the cartoon character causing all kinds of mouse-based mayhem. The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse: Steamboat Silly premieres on Disney+ on July 28 and you can take a look at the first trailer below.

The title of the short is a riff on Steamboat Willie, which debuted in 1928 and marked the first animated appearance of Mickey Mouse. In the upcoming Steamboat Silly, Mickey and friends have to stop hundreds of black and white versions of himself escaping from old film reels before they can cause too much havoc.

A minifigure of Steamboat Willie previously appeared in LEGO Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie, a striking monochromatic set that included both Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The model was released in 2019 and was itself based on a fan design submitted for review by Máté “szabomate90” Szabó. Long since retired, the 751-piece build marked the 90th anniversary of Mickey’s debut and boasted a brick-built S.S. Willie complete with moving steam pipes, rotating paddle wheels and working crane.
