Latest LEGO Ideas design to gain 10,000 supporters tells a story of many sets

The latest LEGO Ideas design to gain 10,000 supporters and make it to the review stage boasts a backstory that links it to two other sets.

“Resting a few miles upstream from where the old LEGOREDO fort once stood, is an old saw mill…” writes the build’s designer, Krackenator4. “It has had a long history having been constructed nearly 100 years ago, but even with the introduction of electricity and the automobile, it is still operational. Many locals claim that the lumber that was milled here was used to build Fort LEGOREDO and Gold City Junction.”

Alluding to 1996’s 6769 Fort Legoredo and 6765 Gold City Junction, this proposed set, Ogel Creek Saw Mill, presents a 19th Century sawmill in the time of transition between the old ways and the new. As such, it comes complete with olf-fashioned brick-built tools and machines, but also a more modern truck to haul timber.

One of the most unique parts of this build is the working water mill, which can be powered by a motor (although that’s not included in the original design). They showed off how this could look in two gifs posted on the LEGO Ideas page.

“The model has a functioning water wheel that not only spins, but also powers the two different style saws inside the mill,” writes Krackenator4. “The saws are operated by a series of gears and axles within the foundation. There is the possibility to connect a motor and battery to this system if one wanted to power the model on its own.”

Ogel Creek Saw Mill follows Bricks Coffee to become the 19th set to make it to the first LEGO Ideas review stage of 2023. Here’s a reminder of all the sets to gain 10,000 supporters so far this year.
