LEGO Marvel 76242 Thanos Mech Armor needs a better head on its shoulders

An upcoming LEGO Marvel set – 76242 Thanos Mech Armor – can be greatly improved with a part from an older one.

2023 is bringing us a nice selection of LEGO Marvel models, including a trio of mech armor sets. Sets like this have appeared in the LEGO Marvel theme for some time now, and pair LEGO minifigures with mech suits inspired by their appearance. They’re an excellent way to get rare characters or new minifigure designs.

However, the scaling inevitably means that the minifigures can look a bit out of place once they’re placed in them. Fortunately, one LEGO fan has had the bright idea of adding a piece from another LEGO set to fix the problem.

Reddit user itsjustajoe shows how the oversized Thanos head from 76192 Avengers: Endgame Ultimate Battle can be paired with this new LEGO set. This head formed part of a short-lived redesign of the LEGO bigfig, which recreates certain characters with bigger body types. While bigfig heads are normally moulded into the body, here it was a separate element – which allowed it to turn and offer a more ‘LEGO-y’ shape.

Since LEGO Thanos has had a very consistent skin tone, the head fits effortlessly onto this set – and scales better with the mech’s limbs. It’s not clear what the actual attachment point is, but if 80111 Lunar New Year Parade – which re-uses the head element – is any indication, it should just attach to the minifigure included.

As such, if you happened to pick up 76192 Avengers: Endgame Ultimate Battle (which is now, sadly, retired) you may want to use its Thanos head on a more articulated figure. 76242 Thanos Mech Armor can be purchased from LEGO.com from January 1, 2023; it carries an RRP of £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99.
