LEGO Indiana Jones joins the Brick Fanatics Top 20

LEGO Indiana Jones is swinging back on to LEGO Store shelves – and straight into Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO Sets List.

Three new LEGO Indiana Jones sets are now available at LEGO.com, tackling iconic scenes and sequences from Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. (Sorry, Temple of Doom.) The biggest and arguably best of those three sets is 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol, which captures the action-packed opening of Raiders, as Indy navigates an ancient Peruvian temple to steal liberate the fictitious Chachapoyan Fertility Idol.

It’s never that easy, of course, and the temple is packed to the brim with booby traps – almost each and every one of which is incorporated into 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol. Because while this looks very much like a display set from the outside – that black base and those quote tiles evoking the LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection – it’s also one you’re going to want to get hands-on with.

By way of a morass of Technic mechanisms hidden on the back of the model, you can take Indy through the temple while carefully navigating all the traps that await the adventurer: a rolling boulder, collapsing walls and a sinking floor, to name just a few. They’re all brilliantly integrated so as not to diminish the display value of the set, while still giving you an excuse to tinker with it long after the last brick goes down.

It’s that approach that’s earned 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol a very respectable place in our Top 20 LEGO Sets List, where it shares fine company with the likes of 10302 Optimus Prime, 76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck and 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition. You can find out more about the first 18+ LEGO Indiana Jones set by reading our full review.

Otherwise, click through to the full Top 20 (which tracks the very best LEGO sets currently in stock at LEGO.com) to see where 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol ranks – and if you haven’t checked out the list before, to see the 2021 set that’s still clinging on to pole position…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
